May I shed some light on my training and skill?

I believe in an adventurous study of life and my quest for martial arts expertise has been no exception.  My quest for martial knowledge started in 1962 and the thirst for it has never diminished.  The first time I set ‘foot to mat’ I knew this was for me.  I have had the privilege to train with some great old masters in Japan, Korea and Asia over the years it is this knowledge I have become a custodian of I would like to offer you.  I have some 39 years of military and police service with extensive operational experience and this brings great insight into the indomitable spirit of the warrior path.

I have also seen and experienced a lot of change in the martial arts especially in Hapkido.  I was one of first students in the door when Tae kwon Do and Hapkido first came to Canada.  I was one of the very first black belts and helped introduce Hapkido to Canada in the early 70’s.  I have lived and studied Hapkido in Korea and meet many of the originals. Since I started great Hapkido Masters’ including the founder have come and gone.  Since 1969 I was once part of the all powerful Korea Hapkido Association headed by GM. JI, Han Jae and have seen it brake apart because of petty politics and in fighting.  I am even now amazed at number of new Hapkido organizations which have grown up to take its place and the number of new Korean martial art systems born from it offering their services and even more amazed at who heads these systems.  In this short time I have seen Korean martial art history rewritten, become confused and this has left me wondering and questioning.

I am sure you have all heard about the old secret Hapkido techniques and one day the old masters will reveal them to you.  Well I am not going to say or do that because we all know the secret is simple, proper training guided by a qualified instructor and hard continuous practicing. However, if you are looking for a fresh approach to your training, new ideas or should I say ‘retro concepts’ then this I can offer comparisons!  Also as a battle hardened warrior I can offer you a guide to an enlightened warrior culture, something that is missing in many Hapkidoist lives today.  I do not believe Hapkido or any martial art should be governed by fads and/or commercial opportunities masquerading as training.  If you wish to learn and/or make a comparative study of Hapkido techniques by learning the skills of your forbearers system, then please contact me I will look forward to hearing from you.
